Requirements [1]
  • 1 x Stack & Store Drawer unit
  • Paint brush, Sponge applicator, sand paper, Craft roller, Satin Finish Modge Podge, & wax candle
  • Acrylic paint in the colour of your choice
  • Chalk paint in the colour of your choice
  • A variety of scrapbooking paper, in a design of your choice
Instructions [1]
  1. Select the paper you want to use on your wooden blank and then match the paint to the paper.
  2. Make sure the surface of the unit is clean and smooth. Sand off any rough patches and then wipe off the dust.
  3. Pick a colour of your choice in acrylic paint, your first layer of paint needs to be diluted with 20% water. Mix this in a separate container, to prevent contaminating the entire jar of paint. Apply the first layer in one direction, followed by a second coat applied in the opposite direction. Making sure the entire surface is covered. Using acrylic paint will prevent the paint from rubbing off and has a much more vibrant end result.
  4. Once your paint is completely dry, use a normal wax candle to rub the edges of the wooden piece. This will prevent the next layer of paint, from sticking to the under coat and it will look more aged.
  5. Apply a layer of chalk paint over the drawers and allow it to dry. Once the paint is dry, use soft grit sand paper to lightly sand the entire surface. Where the wax was applied, the undercoat colour will show through. Wipe off the saw dust with a clean cloth.
  6. Decide where you want your pieces of paper to go. It is easier to have smaller pieces of paper to work with, instead of one big piece. The bigger the piece of paper, the harder it is to get the paper to lie flat on the wood.
  7. Using a sponge applicator, apply a generous layer of Modge Podge onto the space you are going to put paper on. Stick your paper onto the Modge and use the sponge to make sure it is in place. Once the paper is in place remove any excess Podge from under your image. Make sure that there are no bubbles, use the craft roller to remove bubbles.  Allow the Modge dry completely before continuing.
  8. Repeat Step 7, until all the surfaces are covered. Now you will apply 10 coats of Modge Podge, Start applying about 10 coats of Modge podge one at a time allowing each coat to dry for about 30 minutes before applying the next layer. Change the direction each time.
  9. Gently sand off any rough areas with a fine 1200grit sand paper, that has been dipped in water, apply 4-5 more layers of Modge and sand again. This process can be repeated as many times as you want until you have achieved the desired effect.
  10. Sand the last layer very well. Allow it to dry for at least 24hours. Seal your project with 2 -3 layers of heavy duty vanish for heat, scuff and water-resistant protection.
