The Block NZ

The Block NZ is a New Zealand reality show based on the popular Australian TV series, The Block.

The show is hosted by former Black Cap Mark Richardson, and also features Shannon Ryan as the challenge presenter. Stewart Harris, a Senior Designer at Martin Hughes Architecture Interiors, and Victoria Bidwell, a Bayleys Real Estate Agent, act as judges.

The series follows four couples as they compete against each other to completely renovate four houses on Anzac Street in Takapuna and then sell them at auction. Each couple will keep any profit made on the house, with the winner receiving an additional $80,000.

Episode 1

The Block NZ premiere sees the four couples come together for the very first time, as they are sent on a treasure hunt around Auckland. At stake, $25,000 and the first pick of the four houses.

Episode 2

It’s the first night on The Block NZ and the four couples are in for renovating hell – uncovering nasty, nightmare conditions in the houses they must live in and transform over the next 10 weeks.

Episode 3

The couples begin their first room renovation and host Mark Richardson challenges them to build a wall to his exact measurements – with a prize that will turn the competition upside down.

Episode 4

Ginny and Rhys deliver their verdict, Shannon sets the couples a distressing challenge, and judges Victoria Bidwell and Stewart Harris assess the first room makeovers.

Episode 5

The couples compete in a trash to treasure challenge, using second-hand materials to create a new piece of furniture or art.

Episode 6

The race is on to finish their third bedrooms, and it is water torture as the couples get soaked in a plumbing challenge.

Episode 7

The contestants must renovate their bathrooms and laundries and cook dinner parties for the others on The Block NZ. But will every couple play fair?

Episode 8

Dinner parties turn to dinner wars as one couple swindles the rest of The Block NZ, and time runs out to finish this week’s rooms.

Episode 9

This week, the couples must makeover two rooms and are challenged to build a beautiful home – for man’s best friend.

Episode 10

It’s judgement day for the living rooms and the couples are challenged to transform a plain white room into one inspired by Dulux paint colours.

Episode 11

It’s kitchen and dining room week on The Block NZ and the couples head to Hilton, Auckland for a gardening challenge.

Episode 12

It’s kitchen and dining room judgement day, and the teams style a room for a magazine cover shoot.

Episode 13

It’s master bedroom and ensuite week on The Block NZ. As well as renovating, the couples face a shattering challenge – to create mosaic masterpieces.

Episode 14

Judgement day looms for the master bedrooms and ensuites; and the teams tackle a massive maze to make outdoor furniture.

Episode 15

Frontyard renovations are threatened by wild weather and the blokes blossom in a floristry challenge.

Episode 16

Will everyone finish their frontyards in time for judging? And an eco-friendly challenge leaves one couple at war.

Episode 17

Tonight, relentless rain makes for chaotic backyard renovations and a backbreaking challenge runs late into the night.

Episode 18

A two-day marketing challenge forces the teams – and their homes, in the spotlight, and after seven gruelling weeks, the house exteriors are proving to be their toughest project of all.

Episode 19

Who has the best back yard? The Block NZ homes are complete to perfection. Over a month later, the four couples return for their most important challenge ever – and then, the houses are open for inspection.

Episode 20

Tonight, who will win The Block NZ? The four houses go under the hammer in a live auction final. All teams will win the profits from their auction and the winners an additional $80,000 cash prize.
