A life-sized replica of each property is specially built in a studio – exactly as it would look after being remodelled according to the family’s plans.
Episode 1 -Guildford
In this series opener, young couple Debbie and Amos in Guildford want to create a huge family kitchen-diner-entertaining space in their bungalow’s half-built extension. Charlie shows them what their plans would look like if they were actually built – and the problems with their proposed layout. Then he rebuilds the replica of their house in the studio to show what he thinks they should do to turn it into the home they dream of.
Charlie also sends the couple to snoop around their neighbours’ homes for further ideas and inspiration, and to visit the house on their street that is currently the one to beat. And he gives them a further chance to experiment with ideas cheaply, and avoid future arguments, using computer graphics to mock up different decoration schemes.
After all this help, Amos and Debbie get the builders in, and Charlie follows their attempt to remodel their home without breaking the bank. When they finish, he gets estate agents in to find out if they have made theirs the best house on the street.

In this episode Mike Benka and Louisa Doran want to bring light, style and luxury into a run-down basement flat in London’s Kensington.
After showing them in the studio what their flat would look like if they went through with their plans, Charlie shows them how he would redesign the layout to make the most of the available space.
The couple have a huge budget of £100,000, but to stretch it further pilot Mike decides to project manage, and they start work before they have finalized their designs.

In this episode Warren and Donna Joseph and teenage daughter Kedeisha want to give their West London 1930’s semi a total refurb, knocking down internal walls and extending out into the garden to create their dream of contemporary open plan family living.
After showing them in the studio what their house would look like according to their own plans, Charlie shows them how they could get open-plan at half the cost, and the family have to decide what to do.
Charlie also sends them to snoop around their neighbours’ homes for ideas and inspiration, and to visit the house on their street that is currently the one to beat. And he gets them to experiment with new decoration ideas, and go outside their comfort zone, at no cost, using computer graphics.
