Presented by Michael Holmes, this brand new series to Discovery Real Time explores the three main options available to homeowners on the move – whether to Build, Buy Or Restore?

Each episode Michael will take a homebuyer through the choices they have, going beyond simply purchasing a finished house.  By viewing properties that need some level of conversion and renovation and also looking at buying land and self-building, Michael gives them all the information they need to make a decision and the confidence to pursue their dream.

Episode 1.

Lottery winners Paul and Barbara have had some five and a half years to get used to their 2.3m winnings. And now, they’re looking for the perfect family home. With a cool $1 million to spend, can this couple create the ultimate family home?

Episode 2.

Teachers Maria and Zig see themselves moving to a house with enough outside space for stables and a paddock. They have a budget of $300,000 and think that with their creative and imaginative background as English and Art teachers, they hold the key to finding the ideal home on a tight budget.

Episode 3.

Dublin-born Clara and Derek have spent the last five years living in England and now they’ve decided it’s time to go back home to Ireland But ,whilst Clara’s set her heart on restoring an old property, Derek’s a bit more keen on simply buying and moving in. And they have totally different tastes. So who will win the day?

Episode 4.

Brian and his wife are looking for their first house together after 20 years of living in Army accommodation. The pair are nervous but determined to find a detached village home in which they can enjoy their retirement. Financially stable, are the couple brave enough to build from scratch or will their first home be a safe and reliable ready made home?

Episode 5.

Alison and Gary want to escape suburban life in Birmingham and start a new, more relaxed life on the west coast of Wales. So will they choose a beautiful Grade 2 listed farmhouse they could simply buy and move into, a six acre building plot, or a stunning Medieval Hall House complete with 16th Century beams that’s just perfect for restoration?

Episode 6.

Vanessa and Andrew are hoping to find themselves a bigger property. They both have successful careers and feel the time is now right for them to move to a country home with plenty of space for socializing with friends. Naturally nervous of making an expensive mistake however, the couple are trying to tread carefully. Will this prevent them living out their country dream?

Episode 7.

Described by their friends as an “eccentric” couple, Anne and Roland are determined to move to as environmentally-friendly a house as possible. How they will achieve this remains to be seen, but Roland is determined that they won’t be “the couple who failed to make it happen on national TV!”

Episode 8.

Tired of being a family of four existing in a two-bedroom house, Justin and Chantal have decided it’s time to upsize their property. But building the home they want will cost them far more than they’d planned. Will they decide to take the plunge and borrow more to realise their dreams?

Episode 9.

David and Sarah are hoping to move to Northumberland and are looking forward to the prospect of cheaper house prices. David is experienced at building and restoring houses. However, he has yet to convince fiancee Sarah who is less than thrilled at the prospect of returning to a building site every night!

Episode 10.

James and Tom have finally agreed to move out of bustling Manchester city and look for a home in the surrounding countryside. They are hoping to build, buy or restore a house to include all mod cons and a walled garden. But will Tom be able to sacrifice the Manchester night life for all this peace and quiet?

Episode 11.

When Maxine and Michael decided they needed a home with more space for their family, the idea of a home-build or restoration project instantly appealed. But, the couple readily admit they have no experience in the area, and may be relying on Maxine’s role as a DIY expert. Will the rest of the family lend a helping hand when their lives are uprooted?

Billing themselves as “the nicest people you could ever meet”, Stephen and Natalie are looking for their dream house. Stephen has bags of enthusiasm and is keen to thoroughly investigate all his options, especially as he thinks their budget is more than enough to find the perfect home.

Episode 14.

Lisa and Ian are after the “good life” and dream of converting an old farmhouse into a home. They want somewhere with room for their horses and with Ian’s sense of humour and Lisa’s creative streak, they’re desperate to really make a house their own.

Episode 15.

Jason and Theresa are hoping to find a home in the Shropshire countryside but they want to be close enough to Telford for Jason to get into work every day. They are looking for somewhere with a large garden and want to be settled well into the future. With no experience in DIY or property restoration, will they be forced to settle on a finished home in order to keep to their budget?

Episode 16.

Martin’s dream has always been to build his own home. His wife Susan is, however, reluctant to do so while their two teenage daughters are taking their exams. The couple needs to move though as they are bursting out of their current home, and if they find somewhere with rural views, a large garden and two bathrooms, so much the better! Could building from scratch be the answer or should Susan stick to her guns?

Episode 17.

Peter and Milly want nothing more than to settle down in their perfect house with their young son Olly and enjoy life. But when they’re looking for period character as well as luxury, finding the right home becomes something more of a challenge. And trying to juggle a toddler and their careers only causes further complications – has this family got more than they bargained for?

Episode 18.

Chris and Sue may have reached retirement but they don’t feel ready to slow down just yet. Their newest challenge is to find a new home.
Michael Holmes helps them decide whether to relax and put their feet up or to launch themselves into the cut-throat world of property development.

Episode 19.

Richard and Kristie are looking to buy a home and they want something with plenty of space for entertaining, and room for Richard to have a woodwork workshop. With these strict guidelines and a budget of $425,000, could this be too much for the pleasure-seeking pair?

Episode 20.

Nike and John are looking for their ideal home – one with state of the art mod conveniences and views over the sea. John is also an avid gardener so he would love somewhere with a garden to really challenge him. They have a huge budget of $1.5 million, but with ever-increasing house prices in the South East, will even that much be enough to get them the home of their dreams?
