Screen Printing a Table Cloth

Requirements
- Padded board to use as a surface to print on (can use felt, thin sponge or carpet underfelt stapled onto hardboard)
- Fabric tablecloth
- Photographic silkscreen with teacup image
- Blank silkscreen
- 2 Squeegees
- Fabric paints
- Cutting board
- Paper
- Cutting knife
- Masking tape
Instructions
- Step 1:
- Place print board under tablecloth where first print will be printed.
- Step 2:
- Place teacup screen down on fabric. Now, spoon some fabric paint into the inside edge of the screen, farthest from you.
- Step 3:
- Place your squeegee on the far side of the ink, so that the rubber blade of the squeegee is flush with the screen edge and pull the ink towards you with firm pressure. Repeat this process by picking up the ink that is now on the inner edge of the screen closest to you with the squeegee, and depositing it back to the far inner side of the screen, and pull the ink once more towards you.
- Step 4:
- Place your squeegee down on some newspaper and carefully peel your screen off the fabric
- Place screen down a piece of newspaper. You can use a hairdryer and dry your teacup print before moving on to the next print.
- Step 5:
- Move your print pad to the next position for printing and then you can pick up your screen and print the teacup screen again continuing till you are finished printing all the teacups.
- How to make a paper stencil:
- Take a piece of news print and cut it to the size of your screen.
- Using your cutting knife or a scissors, cut a hole in the middle of the paper. This is now your stencil.
- Tape the stencil lightly on the top & bottom to the underside of the screen, using masking tape.
- Move your print pad to the next position for printing and then you can pick up your screen and print the teacup screen again continuing till you are finished printing all the teacups.
- Step 6:
- Like before, place the screen down on your fabric where you want your first dot and continue until all your dots are complete.
- Step 7:
- To make your prints colourfast (curing the fabric), place brown paper over the prints and iron it with a hot iron for a few minutes over each print. Your tablecloth is now complete and ready to be used.
Project 2
Screen Printed Napkin

- Fabric Napkin
- Photographic silkscreen with cutlery image
- 2 Squeegees
- Fabric paints
- Cutting board
- Cutting knife
- Masking tape
Instructions
- Step 1:
- Place your fabric down on your print board
- Step 2:
- Place the screen down where you want the print to appear on the napkin and spoon some fabric paint into the inside edge of the screen, farthest from you.
- Step 3:
- Place your squeegee on the far side of the ink, so that the rubber blade of the squeegee is flush with the screen edge and pull the ink towards you with firm pressure. Repeat this process by picking up the ink that is now on the inner edge of the screen closest to you with the squeegee, and depositing it back to the far inner side of the screen, & pull the ink once more towards you. Repeat this step until you have all your napkins printed
- Step 4:
- Place your squeegee down on some newspaper and carefully peel your screen off the fabric
