In this 12 episode series, Mike Holmes and his son Mike Holmes Jr. are in business together and take on their biggest challenge yet: buying, renovating, and selling 3 houses for profit, doing it the ‘Make It Right’ way. Mike doesn’t like the word flip, which he equates with a lipstick and mascara approach to renovation. Mike and MJ will buy 3 houses, renovate them to the highest ‘Make It Right’ standards and get them market ready for eager home-buyers who appreciate the quality work they expect from the Holmes men.

11-17 Jan: Episode 2 – Water: the good, the bad, and the money

MJ and Mike tour an eyesore of a commercial/residential investment on the St. Lawrence River in the Thousand Islands. Mike has visions of a live/work/play property in this thriving tourist area. It’s been sitting on the market, so the Holmes men get a good deal, but inherit a house full of asbestos. They are forced to stop demo and bring in a remediation team. Meanwhile, back at the country house, the water issues are dampening the mood, as Mike and MJ also find out they are on the hook to replace the entire leaching field.

Episode 3 – Demo, digging, and dancing

Mike and MJ are adding a partial second story to the country house, so the walls go up and the trusses are set in place. Back at the river house, the demo is complete, exposing dangerous structural issues to the roof and walls. The decision is made to take down the roof and second floor walls. So, while the country house goes up, the river house comes down, and the budget goes off the rails.

Episode 4 – What comes down must go up

Mike and MJ deal with the major structural and water issues at the river house and make the bold decision to take the whole house down, so they can build it back up right. This is a major set back and their profit will take a major hit if they don’t find areas to save. Meanwhile, back at the country house, the Holmes men continue to solve the water issues, but during a mechanical walkthrough, they notice more water on the basement floor. Where is this coming from? MJ transforms the two- car garage into a functional and appealing workshop and living space.

Episode 5 – Decisions and delays

Trusses are going up at river house, but MJ learns they need to shut down because the permits for the new build have not yet been approved. Another waiting game as Mike goes to the Council meeting in the hopes of hearing good news. Back at the country house, Mike and MJ welcome their designer BFF Sarah Richardson, as she offers some very good advice. MJ is getting wedding jitters as the big day approaches.

Episode 6 – The wedding

The leaching bed is replaced at the country house and things are progressing well. That doesn’t last long as Mike and MJ find out an open permit remains on the barn and they will need to get it up to code. Back at the river house, Mike decides to hire a designer for the first time. Will he be able to hand over some control to a new member of the team? And the big day is finally here, as MJ and Lisa get married in a picturesque setting – that is if the pounding rain holds off.

Episode 7 – Here we go again

With the wedding over, smooth sailing is only wishful thinking as Mike and MJ are welcomed back to the river house by a river of muck! The deck posts and windows get installed as they rush to get the house closed in before the winter weather arrives. And after looking at, and purchasing their next property, Mike throws a monkey wrench into their renovation plan — and budget.

Episode 8 – Game changer

Mike’s vision for open concept at the suburban house has hit a structural snag. Will MJ be able to rein him in or will the budget take another hit? Thankfully the kitchen layout is something they both can agree on. A major issue arises for the deck at the country house. And over at the river house, a fun surprise awaits the team, but the fun doesn’t last for long as Mike throws another curveball at MJ — one that could have serious repercussions for their business plan.

Episode 9 – River house of dreams

Designer BFF Sarah Richardson is back at the country house with some valuable advice on the design of the master en-suite. Meanwhile, over at the suburban house, the guys use some cool technology to improve the energy efficiency of the home. While the push is on to get the interior of the river house completed, there is added pressure for MJ who wants to surprise his dad with the finishing touches.

Episode 10 – Smart suburban Holmes

With the interior of the river house complete, it’s time to focus on the other two properties. Mother nature prevents work at the country house, so it’s all hands on deck over at the suburban house. With the open house fast approaching, Mike, MJ and the crew work feverishly to get the smart home ready. There’s a lot on the line for the guys — will all their hard work pay off, and will they receive the valuation they were hoping for from the real estate agent?

Episode 11 – A thousand goodbyes

Designer BFF Sarah Richardson talks tiles with the boys, and MJ is inspired to make some bold choices for the bathrooms at the country house. Will his business partner agree or will it be back to square one? Inside the country house flooring takes center stage as hardwood, tile, and carpet are being laid, while outside, the barn finally gets finished! Over at the river house, fencing and finishes touches are taking place as Mike and MJ prepare to say goodbye to the Thousand Islands — for now.

Episode 12 – The Holmes stretch

The first property bought is the last to be finished — but it’s the final Holmes stretch! Time is money, and there is still a ton of work to be done before they can put the sign up on the lawn and get the house on the market. Mike and MJ race to complete the landscaping, upping the curb appeal for potential buyers, while finishing the interior to Mike’s exacting standards. Will the past year be a profitable one?
