Gardening Tips – Episode 2

What to do this week:

  1. Trim Hedges
  2. This is an opportune time to give your hedge a last prune before winter because the next time you are going to touch them again is in spring.

The most important thing to remember when pruning is the hedge needs to be square, from the top to bottom.

  1. Pest Control

At this time of the year with the change of season – your strappy leaf plants are being attacked by the amaryllis worm.

    How do you know this?

If the leaves of the plants start turning yellow and become soft then chances are the worm has found it’s way in there.

So how do you get rid of it?

Visit your local garden centre and ask them for an insecticide that you can spray on your plants.

  2. Lifting old garden pots

The onset of autumn is a great time to lift your old garden pots and rejuvenate them by putting in fresh and colourful plants. If you are going to be re-using an old pot to plant in – remember to rinse it out with a solution such as water with jik, to sterilise the pot before planting in it.
