Bedroom Trunk

If you are looking for a storage solution for the bedroom, then a bedroom trunk might just be what you are looking for. Peter and Annalien builds a storage trunk that can be used in a variety of situations.

You will need:

PST 18 Jigsaw Legs 80mm x 400 mm – 4 pieces
PSR 18 Cordless Legs 60mm x 400mm – 4 pieces
PEX 220 sander Slats long – 80mm x 860 mm – 4 pieces
PFS 2000 Spray gun Slats short – 80 mm x 370mm – 4 pieces
POF 1400 Router with parralel guide Base 820 mm x 370mm – 1 piece (grain in long direction)
PKP 18E glue gun Top 950 mm x 500mm – 1 piece
PTK 14 E tacker plus 6mm staples (we might have to buy) top 910 mm x 460mm – 1 piece
  Top sides 40mm x 950 mm – 2 pieces
  Top sides short 40mm x 460mm – 2 pieces
  Support slats 50mm x 370mm – 2 pieces
  6 mm Ply wood
  Inserts front and back 800 x 220 mm – 2 pieces
  Inserts sides 350 mm x 220mm – 2 pieces
  Top seat 450 x 900 mm – 1 piece
  50mm High density foam 450 x 900mm – 1 piece
  Dacron 700 x 1200 mm – 1 piece
  Material to cover the chair 700 x 1200 mm – 1 piece
  Material for front and back inserts 900 x 300 – 2 pieces
  Material for side inserts 500 x 300 mm – 2 pieces
  4 x 40mm screws
  wood glue
  white vinegar – 1 bottle 
  steelwool
  wood filler pine
  Clear varnish waterbased – 1 ltr

Follow these steps

Building

  1. Draw out and mark off where legs join on each corner x 4
  2. Cut out shape in leg bottoms
  3. Assemble four legs
  4. Mark out and assemble top and bottom frames
  5. Attach base to bottom frame
  6. Router edges
  7. Attach legs to frames
  8. Attach frame to the top
  9. Attach support slats underneath
  10. Router edges
  11. Sand all pieces including inserts

Staining

  1. Take tea mixture and stain all the pieces except the inserts
  2. Spray with clear varnish.

Upholstery (the material is the same for the sides and the seat)

  1. Glue material to the inserts (once dry trim material to size)
  2. Attach inserts into the trunk.
  3. Glue the sponge to the seat insert
  4. Pull Dacron over the sponge
  5. Pull material over the Dacron
  6. Pull material firmly over the seat and fasten underneath
  7. Trim excess material
  8. Glue seat onto the lid
