Follow these steps:

  1. Cut sides for the top to size.
    1. In order to achieve a square top, you need to cut your wood to size
    2. If you want your square to be 500 x 500 then 2 sides will be 500 mm each and the other 2 sides will be 500 mm minus the width of the wood ie 20 mm x 2. Therefore subtract 40 mm from 500 mm and then your remaining 2 sides should be cut to 460 mm each.
    3. You can now join all 4 pieces together by marking and drilling 2 pilot holes on either side of 2 sides. Fasten with 2 screws each. You should now have a square frame. (Measure the inside square to get the measurements for your glass.)
  2. Cut your legs to size.
    1. Check the material list and drawing for the length of your legs and cut the wood to size.
    2. Assembling legs to frame.
    3. Mark and drill 2 pilot holes on each corner of the frame to allow for fastening of the legs. Allow space for the glass to fit into the frame (depending on your requirements) you can make it flush with the frame top or sink it in slightly. The glass will sit on top of the legs.
    4. Join the legs to the frame by fastening with screws using the pilot holes you’ve just drilled. Make sure that each leg is fastened at exactly the same depth in each corner of the frame.
  3. Cutting bottom shelf to size.
    1. The bottom shelf should be the same size as your frame. Cut it to this size.
    2. Measure the width of your legs and take this measurement to cut out each corner of the shelf with a jigsaw.
    3. The shelf should fit in between all 4 of the legs.
  4. Fastening the shelf
    1. Measure where you want your shelf to sit (how high or low) on all four legs.
    2. Fasten the shelf to the legs using plastic brackets or make your own cleats the same width as your legs.
    3. You should now have a table.
  5. Fill the screw holes with wood filler and allow to dry.
  6. Paint or varnish the table by applying two coats allowing to dry first and sand lightly in    between coats. For paint effect, apply a base coat first then add the darker colour afterwards using an old tee shirt to highlight the edges of the wood.
  7. Fit rubber feet to the bottom of the legs
  8. You can now fit the glass. First place felt stoppers on top of the legs then slide in the glass (For a decorative frosted effect, use a stencil by placing it on the glass where you want it and mask with newspaper to prevent overspray. Spray the frosted paint over the stencil, allow to dry and then remove newspaper and stencil.
