Eco House Challenge - Episode Guide
11 - 15 January Stop Your Gassing!
This week on Eco House Challenge, Glenn, ‘the guy in charge of the challenge’, shocks the Shepherd and Edward families’ with the ‘eco shut down’. Turning off all four hot-spots, he locks their bins, clamps their vehicles, and disconnects their water and energy supplies from the mains. For ex-SAS commando officer, Spike Edwards, the shut-down provides a unique opportunity to teach his family a few of his favourite survival skills, but the affluent Shepherds are showing a very different sentiment. Without cars, they cancel 11year old Judd’s birthday party, abandon their home and leave domestic workhorse mum, Shauna, to pick up the pieces. Not even 24hours into the challenge and they’re ready to quit. But if Dad can hold on until the end of the day, Glenn will be back to return one eco hot-spot, a consumption target will be set and Eco Coach, Tanya Ha will begin her coaching.
18 - 22 January “Water Torture”
For twenty-four hours both families have lived without energy, water, transport and waste removal, and now Glenn is back to turn their water hot-spot on and set a sustainable reduction level. With the water challenge in place, it’s time for Eco Coach, Tanya Ha to start her coaching and she quickly zeros in on their un-eco behaviour. Both families must apply strict water rations to pass the water challenge and see their next hotspot returned. Surprisingly, the un-willing Shepherds enjoy early success and easily cross the target line. Their energy hotspot is returned and they move forward with two hotspots to juggle. For the Edwards, the disappointing news of a water failure see working mum Mary counting the cost of her husband’s dodgy maintenance work.
25 - 29 January Emission Impossible
After living in darkness for a week, the Edwards finally pass the water challenge and their energy is returned. Relieved and upbeat they move on to the next hotspot challenge; a 60% reduction in their energy use. Back at the Shepherds, 20 year old Mac has been left at home unsupervised, and Shauna has grave concerns he’s blown their energy target.
01 - 05 February “Driving Me Crazy”
This week on the Eco House Challenge, the Shepherd family face their toughest test yet. The transport challenge is underway, but if university student Jesse’s attitude is anything to go by they could be in for a rough ride. Jesse drives everywhere and giving up his car is a huge sacrifice. For passing the original water challenge both families receive their water efficient white-goods, and the Edwards finally pass the energy challenge. Having caught up to the Shepherds, they take-on the transport challenge, but the rules spark debate.
08 - 12 February “Waste Not Want Not”
This week on the Eco House Challenge the Edwards are on their last legs. At the end of another 24hour penalty shutdown and still struggling to pass the transport hotspot challenge, they are all out of eco solutions. But help is at hand. Eco Coach, Tanya Ha decides to exploit a loophole in the challenge, and they at last make it across the target line. Both families are ready to start the final challenge. For one week, they must juggle water, energy and transport, and now also tackle waste. If they fail to maintain just one of their hotspots, they will have to do the whole week again! Tanya has concerns that Shauna is carrying the children through the challenge and she confronts the family with some incriminating evidence to prove it. Taking a risky plunge, Cam and Shauna agree to divide the chores and give the kids control, putting them in serious danger of blowing the whole Eco House Challenge.
15 - 19 February “Final Countdown”
Two days to go in the final weeks challenge and nerves are starting to fray. The Shepherds have taken a big risk putting the kids in control. Spike Edwards has been up all night. Taking a leaf out of Cam Shepherd’s eco book, he has drawn a master plan, but Mary thinks it’s too late.
