Local interior designer Amanda Landers is back on The Home Channel. She goes back to the basics of transforming rooms in South African homes from zero to hero. Using the same old furnishings, throwing in a few new accessories, and a whole lot of décor savvy – all on a shoestring budget - Amanda gives DIY fans the do’s and don’ts of making the most of what you have in your home.

In the very first episode, Décor 101’s intrepid interior decorator, Amanda Landers heads into the home of a busy 50-something TV executive.
Tired of her drab and tacky bohemian open plan lounge-dining room she ask Amanda to create a calming entertainment sanctuary centered around her blue walls.
Using existing furniture pieces and a bit of DIY savvy Amanda spends the first episode tackling the dining room.

This week on Décor 101 we’re back in the home of our 50-something TV executive.
Continuing with her brief to transform open plan lounge-dining room from an eclectic multi-coloured bohemian TV room, to a sophisticated and calming entertainment sanctuary, Amanda Landers completes the makeover by taking on the lounge.
14 - 18 December
Interior decorator Amanda Landers heads into the neutral-paletted home of a 30-something homeowner, who asks us to help her transform her master bedroom and outdoor patio into a unified “Master Suite”. The theme is romantic with a touch of glamour.
Amanda takes on the challenge and starts by restoring order to the outdoor patio. This includes removing a ghastly, unused bath, sprucing up a dreary outdoor lounger with a touch of paint and adding vibrant colour with some green and pink scatters and seat cushions.

She unifies the adjacent lounge and dining room with the Red and White Venetian colour scheme, and restores order to the enclosed outdoor patio.
Amanda re-arranges artworks, re-hangs a beautiful gilt mirror as the centerpiece in the lounge to add light and glamour, and uses cushions and accessories to link the Lounge and Sunroom with a sumptuous Venetian Red and white theme. Re-arranging couches and objet-d’art is all you need to do to revamp the look!

This week Ann Evans invites the Décor 101 team into her home. As a retired mother of three, Ann loves spending her time shopping for a décor bargain, pottering around the house and taking her bull terrier, Jade for walks.
Though she decorated most of the house splendidly, Ann was at a loss when it came to the outdoor patio and the small study leading to it.
She asks Amanda to lend her hand at unifying the two rooms and creating a beautiful entertainment space.
In this episode, Amanda begins the makeover by assessing the two rooms and searching for the key furniture pieces she will use to create the final look.
Amanda then starts by de-cluttering the small and confused study, turning it into a comfy and spacious entertainment lounge with the clever use of mirror and orange and green scatter cushions.
18 - 22 January

Last week succeeded in transforming the former study into a comfy and inviting entertainment lounge. She now moves the look through to the outdoor patio by rearranging Ann’s pot plants, hoisting a rust table from the garage over the balcony and using it as the centerpiece for her crisp lime green and white table setting.

In this week’s episode of Décor 101, we meet Richard a 25-year-old freelance cinematographer, director, editor and a martial arts enthusiast. This explains his vast collection of photography books, comics, toys and martial arts paraphernalia.
Working in the fast-paced world of film, Richard barely has time for himself let alone for decorating his loft apartment. Having recently moved in, the place is in quite a state and in desperate need of a feminine touch.
Richard asks Amanda to help turn his messy bachelor pad into a welcoming and homely space.
In the first episode of Richard’s makeover, Amanda clears the unsightly mess to make way for the painters. She selects a blood red and calming grey tone as the colours for the two feature walls. Amanda also goes scratching around Richard’s stuff and finds a gorgeous red scatter and two ottoman’s Richard’s mom sent him, which forms the inspiration for the décor colour scheme. She then begins the makeover by reorganizing the small pantry using wicker baskets for added storage.

In this week’s episode, Amanda returns to Richard’s open plan loft apartment to complete his makeover. She starts by rearranging the newly painted bookshelves and decorating the desk space. Amanda then displays Richard’s collection of martial arts paraphernalia on the blood-red feature wall, while the living area and upstairs bedroom get a red inspired makeover.
08 - 12 February
Louise McAuliffe is a single mother of Dale her ten-year-old son who loves to draw, collect comic books and play video games on his Play Station console. Dale has a very small room and has a habit of hoarding and stashing his toys and mess on the top bunk of his double-bunk bed and any other corner he can find! He has also outgrown his bob the builder carpet and the teddy-bear knobs on his white chest of drawers.
They ask Amanda to help with the storage problem and create a look perfect for a ten-year-old.
Amanda gives the room a completely new look with a lick of racy red paint on the double-bunk bed and chest of drawers.
By adding some inexpensive pine shelves and a couple of storage units she helps arrange Dale’s Play Station DVDs and clear his stash of toys.
Dale doesn’t even recognize his room once Amanda is done, and Louise is excited with the choice of two looks Amanda has created for the room.
15 - 19 February
Lebohang is a 29-year-old online content manager who loves reading, DIY and making beautiful tapestries. Despite her many talents, Lebohang couldn’t quite figure how to make her living area feel like an inviting space where she could entertain guests. She wrote into Décor 101 asking Amanda to create a distinctive division between the lounge and dining room in her open plan apartment.
Amanda wastes no time and starts by moving Lebohang’s antique wooden server into the lounge to replace the chunky TV unit.
Using Lebohang’s beautiful tapestries as inspiration, Amanda introduces some colour into Lebohang’s life with the use of orange and green scatters and a complimentary carpet.
Amanda finishes off the look by introducing a small dining room table and chairs she found in a secondhand store into Lebohang’s home.
22 - 26 February
Jeremy is a divorced father of two teenage sons who visit him at least four days out of the week.
The boys enjoy listening to loud music, playing bass guitar and Play Station. However, because Jeremy works from home most of the time, there is an often a clash over noise levels.
The only solution is turning the poolroom leading on to the patio into the perfect chill area. A space where the boys can be boys and make all the noise they want without disturbing dad.
Cue Amanda….our intrepid interior designer who starts Jeremy’s makeover by clearing the junk from the small and narrow room.
She then goes snooping around Jeremy’s home in search of furniture she can revive with a lick of blue paint and place in the room.

Having cleared the junk from the room, painted the walls and revived the furniture she found with a lick of blue paint Amanda returns on day two of Jeremy’s makeover to decorate.
She starts by bringing in the day bed she found in the house and filling it with soft comfy scatter cushions and poufs. Amanda brings in the newly painted furniture and adds some comfort to the room with a rug and new curtains.
08 - 12 March
This week on Décor 101, we meet Kurt Petersen, an IT specialist who lives in Jo’burg and loves nothing better than throwing parties at home for his friends.
With summer here and the festive season fast approaching, Kurt wrote into Décor 101 asking Amanda to help turn his very dull and drab outside patio into a fun and bright entertainment space.
Amanda gets the party started on the patio with a splash of red and orange in the form of scatters, a throw and pictures.
She then moves to the deck and “decks” the table with a festive setting using fruit, vegetables and touches of gold.
