Show Me How – Pratliglo

Our presenter Gloria Bastos is joined by Mark Bell from Pratley. They’ll be showing how to use the pratliglo to add a high gloss finish to your projects. First they make a mini-tray and then later a funky ring with beads.

For the Pratliglo Coaster

Requirements

  • 1 x KraftexPratliglo starter kit
  • Wooden blank coaster
  • Craft paint

Instructions

  • Step 1:
    • Paint your wooden blank in the colour of your choice and allow it to dry. Embellish in any way that you like and when completely dry proceed to step 2.
  • Step 2:
    • Carefully read the instructions on the inside of the Pratliglo box! You will need the ‘Kraftex’ Pratliglo, the mixing stick, the two cups, a piece of card, a toothpick and a level surface. You will also need a dust cover or box to cover the coaster after you have poured the Pratliglo. This is to prevent dust falling onto the Pratliglo whilst it dries – even the smallest speck of dust will ruin the finish.
  • Step 3:
    • For the coaster you will only need to use about 25 ml from each Pratliglo bottle. Wear the gloves and avoid inhaling the vapor. Work in a well-ventilated area! First carefully pour, into the graduated mixing cup, 25 ml. of the contents of the Pratliglo bottle with the white cap. Now pour into the same cup an exactly equal amount from the bottle with the black cap. To check this, place each of the Pratliglo bottles next to each other and verify exactly the same height of left over product in each bottle. (The content of the second bottle is less viscous and easier to measure out so if you did not measure exactly 25 ml. from the first bottle adjust accordingly with the second bottle). IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT THE SAME VOLUME FROM EACH BOTTLE IS USED!
  • Step 4:
    • Use the mixing stick to stir/mix for about 1-2 minutes. Whilst stirring, use the stick to scrape the sides of the cup. Now pour the mixed contents into the second cup and stir again. (This ensures thorough mixing with no unmixed material from the sides of the first cup.) Now pour the mixed Pratliglo onto the coaster. Start from the edge and spiral towards the centre. Use a small piece of card (such as a business card) to coax the Pratliglo into the corners and uncovered patches. This must be done quickly before the Pratliglo starts to cure. Make sure that every part of the coaster is covered. The Pratliglo will then spread and level itself on the coaster when it is placed on an exactly level surface.
  • Step 5:
    • You will notice small bubbles in the Pratliglo after pouring. Take a deep breath and slowly exhale onto the surface. The bubbles will pop and disappear like magic. Stubborn specks and bubbles should be removed with a toothpick. Take great care with this. Once all the bubbles have gone, cover with the dust cover and leave to cure for at least 24 hours. Full cure takes ± 72 hours. If you have made any mistakes and don’t have a perfectly smooth glossy finish, don’t worry. You can sand it and pour on more pratliglo (there is no need to sand off the original pratliglo)

Pratliglo Ring with Beads

Requirements

  • 1 x KraftexPratliglo starter kit
  • Metal ring with casing
  • Tiny beads or other embellishment to fit inside the casing.

Instructions

  • Step 1:
    • Fill casing with beads ensuring that beads are below the level of the casing rim. Use a piece of prestick or ring stand to hold the ring in a level, upright position.
  • Step 2:
    • Carefully read the instructions on the inside of the Pratliglo box! You will need the ‘Kraftex’ Pratliglo, the mixing stick, the two cups, a piece of card, a toothpick and a level surface. You will also need a dust cover or box to cover the ring after you have poured the Pratliglo. This is to prevent dust falling onto the Pratliglo whilst it cures – even the smallest speck of dust will ruin the finish.
  • Step 3:
    • For the ring you will only need to use about 15 ml from each Pratliglo bottle. Wear the gloves and avoid inhaling the vapor. Work in a well-ventilated area! First carefully pour, into the graduated mixing cup, 15 ml. of the contents of the Pratliglo bottle with the white cap. Now pour into the same cup an exactly equal amount from the bottle with the black cap. To check this, place each of the Pratliglo bottles next to each other and verify exactly the same height of left over product in each bottle. (The content of the second bottle is less viscous and easier to measure out so if you did not measure exactly 5 ml. from the first bottle adjust accordingly with the second bottle).
(This ensures thorough mixing with no unmixed material from the sides of the first cup.) Now pour the mixed Pratliglo into the ring casing. Start from the edge and spiral towards the centre. Use a small piece of card (such as a business card) to coax the Pratliglo into all the crevices and spaces in between the beads, make sure that all the beads are covered. This must be done quickly before the Pratliglo starts to cure. Pratliglo will then spread and level itself on the ring when it is placed on an exactly level surface.
