This week. Gloria is joined by Carel Kruger from Ajay’s Art Foundation and he will be showing us how to create artistic monotype prints and ghost prints. Using oil paint and an alkyd medium, Carel shows us how to create various shapes and designs on our prints. He will teach us various techniques such as painting, drawing, transferring designs onto paper, adding texture and detail and so much more!

Requirements
- Black oil paint
- Turpentine
- Bottle
- Rags x 10
- Plexiglas x 10
- A5 Papers x 20
- Rubber Roller
- Metal mug
- Brushes, cotton Buds, matches, pencil, palette knife and black marker
- Alkyd – Liquin or Zelkin
- Paper towel
- Palette – flat large
Instructions
- Step 1: Using a paper shape as a stencil draw an A5 outline onto Plexiglas with a marker. Then turn your Plexiglas around.
- Step 2: Now you need to prepare the Ink – 5 parts oil paint + one part alkyd medium. Mix it very well with palette knife on the palette.
- Step 3: Run a roller through paint quite a few times and then roll the gathered paint onto Plexiglas. Make sure the ink has formed an even and dark film on the Plexiglas. Lift it up to the light to make sure it is evenly distributed.
- Step 4: Clean the sides with a rag and then use a pencil to draw the image onto the Plexiglas. Start removing the dark patches with cotton buds. You can also use matches to remove ink and create texture.
- Step 5: Place your paper onto the Plexiglas with the ink on it. Once you have placed the paper down, don’t move it at all. Apply pressure down onto the paper using the base of a flat metal mug. This is the printing process.
- Step 6: For a ghost print, repeat step 5. Allow the ink to dry, and then frame your picture if you like.
