Instructions

Step 1: Covering Your Front Cover

  1. Cut your Thick White Triplex board to measure 8” x 8”. Apply some Tim Holtz Distress Paint: Peacock Feathers and Picket fence directly to your non-stick craft sheet and then spritz with water and run a sheet of 12” x 12” smooth white cardstock through the paint and dry using a heat tool.
  2. Once the cardstock is completely dry, dip your Splatter Brush into some Tim Holtz Distress Paint: Picket Fence and flick the paint over the cardstock to leave splatter and dribbles of paint and then dry using a heat tool. Cover your 8” x 8” triplex board using the painted cardstock.
  3. Using your blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad: Peacock Feathers, stencil over the front cover using your Tim Holtz Layering Stencil: Dot Fade to add more interest to the cover.
  4. Apply some Matte Multi Medium to another 12” x 12” sheet of smooth white cardstock using your Tim Holtz Collage Brush and then adhere a piece of Tim Holtz Melange Tissue Wrap to the cardstock and smooth out using a brayer. Then dry using a heat tool.
  5. Apply some Tim Holtz Distress Paint: Peacock Feathers to the surface of the Melange Tissue Wrap and then spread the paint over the paper using a wet wipe. You can also use the wet wipe to remove colour from certain areas of the Melange Tissue Wrap creating interest (eg: over an image of a butterfly etc). Dry using a heat tool.
  6. Cut the painted Melange Tissue Wrap to measure about 20cm x 20cm, then sand the edges to reveal a white border around the piece and then adhere to the inside front cover using a strong double sided tape.
  7. Optional: You can use Tim Holtz Distress Glaze to seal your cover or any inked pages if you like. Simply rub the glaze over the surface of the pages with your finger and then wipe away excess with a clean towel and buff using a clean towel.
  8. Punch your holes into your front cover before you embellish.

Step 2: Covering Your Back Cover

  1. Cut your Thick White Triplex board to measure 8” x 8”
  2. Cover a piece of 12” x 12” smooth white cardstock with your Melange Tissue Wrap using your Matte Multi Medium and Collage Brush as you did for the front cover. Smooth using your brayer and dry using a heat tool.
  4. Cover your Triplex board using the Melange Covered Cardstock.
  5. Cut a piece of Tim Holtz Distress Core’dinations Cardstock to measure about 20cm x 20cm and then sand the edges using a sanding tool, to reveal the lighter core colour of the cardstock and adhere to the inside of the back cover using a strong double sided tape.
  6. Punch your holes into your back cover.

Step 3: Inside Blank Pages

  1. Cut as many sheets of smooth white cardstock as desired to measure7 13/16” (slightly smaller than your outside covers – measurements used are in line with the Zutter Binding Machine).
  2. Punch your inside pages.

Step 4: Inside Page Divider 1

  1. To add some interest to your notebook, you can create some fun, embellished inside page dividers!
  2. Cut a piece of thick white Triplex board to measure 7 13/16”.
  3. Apply some Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Peacock Feathers from your Ink Pad, directly to your non-stick craft sheet and then spritz with water.
  4. Run a sheet of smooth white cardstock through the ink and then dry using a heat tool.
  5. Optional: Spritz the page with a little plain water and then dab the water off with a clean paper towel and dry using a heat tool. This adds a gorgeous water stained effect to your page!
  6. Cover your sheet of Triplex board (one side) with the inked cardstock.
  7. Punch your holes.
  8. Using your Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad: Peacock Feathers, and your Tim Holtz Stamp Set Graph (CMS185), stamp onto the page to create a checkered background effect.
  9. Using your blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad: Peacock Feathers, stencil over the page using your Tim Holtz Layering Stencil: Dot Fade to add more interest to the background. You want a random effect, so fade the ink in and out.
  10. Adhere a piece of Melange Tissue Wrap with the image of the butterfly to a piece of plain white smooth cardstock using your Matte Multi Medium and your Collage Brush and add some Distress Paint: Peacock Feathers and then spread the paint around using a wet wipe as before and then dry using a heat tool.
  11. Once the piece is dry, cut out the butterfly and sand the edges of the butterfly using a sanding tool.
  12. Using your blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad: Peacock Feathers, ink the sanded edges and then adhere the butterfly to the bottom left hand corner of the page.
  13. Use your Tim Holtz Distress Marker: Pumice Stone to draw a line around the butterfly – this will help the butterfly ‘pop’ from the background.
  14. On a remaining piece of your inked smooth white cardstock, stamp a phrase (I used Dylusions DYB39587 – ‘You are braver thean you believe…’) using your Archival Ink Pad: Jet Black. The cut out the stamped phrase and adhere to your page above the butterfly and in the bottom right hand corner of the page.
  15. Again, use your Pumice Stone Distress Marker to draw a border around two side of each of the lines to ensure they ‘pop’ from the background page.
  16. Using your Archival Ink Pad: Jet Black and your Tim Holtz Stamp Set:Handwritten Holidays 3 (CMS248), stamp the word ‘believe’ in the top right hand corner of the page.
  17. Stamp a text box onto another left over piece of inked cardstock using your Archival Ink Pad: Jet Black. I used the Gorjuss Stamp Set: The Hatter GOR907204 and coloured in the corners using my Tim Holtz Distress Markers: Peacock Feathers and Pumice Stone.
  18. Cut the text box out and adhere to the page just below the word ‘believe’ using thin foam tape.

Step 5: Inside Page Divider 2

  1. Cut a piece of thick white Triplex board to measure 7 13/16”.
  2. Apply some Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Peacock Feathers from your Ink Pad, directly to your non-stick craft sheet and then spritz with water.
  3. Run your patterned paper through the ink and then dry using a heat tool.
  4. Cover your triplex (one side) using the inked patterned paper.
  5. Using a blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad: Peacock Feathers, ink the edges of your page.
  6. Punch your holes.
  7. Using your Archival Ink Pad: Jet Black and your Tim Holtz Butterfly Stamp (you can use either the butterfly from Framelits stamp / die set: Limitations 660189 or the butterfly from stamp set: Perspective CMS213), stamp the image of the butterfly onto your background page 3 times.
  8. Apply some Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Peacock Feathers from your Ink Pad, directly to your non-stick craft sheet and then spritz with water.
  9. Run a sheet of smooth white cardstock through the ink and then dry using a heat tool.
  10. Optional: Spritz the page with a little plain water and then dab the water off with a clean paper towel and dry using a heat tool. This adds a gorgeous water stained effect to your page!
  11. Stamp another butterfly onto the inked cardstock and the cut out (if using your Framelits set, you can cut the butterfly out using the matching die).
  12. Using your Archival Ink Pad: Jet Black, stamp a phrase onto another piece of the inked cardstock (I used the stamp ‘What you think you become…’ from the Stamp set: Ponderings CMS252), and then cut out a rectangle around the phrase. Corner Round.
  13. Mat the phrase onto a piece of Tim Holtz Distress Core’dinations Cardstock: Pine Needles and cut out and corner round.
  14. Using a sanding tool, sand the edges of the cardstock to reveal the lighter core colour!
  15. Adhere your cut out butterfly and stamped phrase to the centre of the page as desired.
  16. Binding Your Notebook:
    1. Apply all your pages / covers and inserts in the order in which you want them and then bind before you embellish your front cover.

Step 6: Embellishing Your Front Cover

  1. Cut out two butterflies from your Sizzix Die Set: Detailed Butterflies 661182, from any spare Melange Covered Smooth White Cardstock you have (or prepare more if you don’t have spare as above). You want to use the top, detailed butterflies from the Melange Paper.
  2. Cut out the backs of the butterflies from your Distress Cardstock: Pine Needles.
  3. Using a sanding tool, carefully sand at the edges of the Melange Butterflies and then ink the sanded edges using a blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad: Peacock Feathers. Using a glue gun, adhere the tops of the butterflies to their matching backs.
  4. Using a glue gun, adhere the two butterflies to the centre of the front cover as desired.
  5. On a spare piece of inked smooth white cardstock, stamp another phrase (I used the phrase ‘Discovering, it’s the one thing…’ from Stamp Set Perspective CMS213), using your Archival Ink Pad: Jet Black.
  6. Cut out a rectangle around the stamped phrase and corner round.
  7. Using a blending tool and Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad: Peacock Feathers, ink the edges and then mat the rectangle onto a piece of Tim Holtz Distress Core’dinations Cardstock: Pine Needles and cut out and corner round.
  8. Using a sanding tool, sand the edges of the cardstock to reveal the lighter core colour. Adhere a mini paper clip to the top left hand corner of the matted phrase and adhere to the centre of the front cover using a glue gun.
  9. Apply some Tim Holtz Distress Ink: Peacock Feathers from your Ink Pad, directly to your non-stick craft sheet and spritz with water. Run a piece of Crinkle Ribbon (about 24”) through the ink and then scrunch in your hand to crease the ribbon. Dry using a heat tool in its creased state and create your ribbon.
  10. Cut out a shield from a spare piece of your Melange cardstock to fit the centre of your Shield Charm and adhere to your charm. Connect your Shield Charm to your bow using a loop pin.
  11. Apply a few drop of Alcohol Ink: Pearl to your Gum Drop and allow to dry, then adhere the Gum Drop to the centre of your bow using a glue gun.
  12. Adhere the crinkle ribbon bow to the bottom left hand corner of the stamped phrase using a glue gun.
